Figma just handed AI agents the keys to its canvas — and the implications for design workflows are massive.
On March 24, 2026, Figma launched the open beta of its MCP server, a Model Context Protocol integration that lets AI agents read, create, and modify designs directly inside Figma files. Not as pixel-level screenshots. Not as exported PNGs fed back into a chatbot. As actual editable layers, components, and variables tied to your real design system.
This isn't another "AI generates a mockup" story. It's the moment design tools started treating AI as a first-class collaborator inside the production environment.

The integration centers on two core tools exposed through the MCP server:
use_figma lets any MCP-compatible AI client — Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Codex, Warp, and others — create or modify design elements directly on the canvas.
